For the last three years, Berlin has seen an explosion in English-language stand-up comedy. With regular open mics and showcases and springing up all over town in various bars, cafés, and art spaces, dozens of Berlin-based comedians from around the world (including Germany!) are finding their voices and sharing their lives in hilarious detail. Now see some of the best the Berlin scene has to offer in Leipzig!

Comics of the night are:

Drew Portnoy

Drew Portnoy traded the mountains of Colorado for the Berlin nightlife over a decade ago. Then he became a father. He aims his dry humor and sharp tongue at his biggest enemies: his children and Germans. He performs in both English and German and was a finalist in Berlin-based Quatsch Comedy Club’s prestigious annual Talentschmiede competition. He recently acted in a comedy pilot for German TV and won NPR Berlin’s 2014 storytelling competition.

Jonas Imam

Jonas Imam is one of the newer comics in Berlin’s bustling comedy scene. He has also hosted 90 episodes of the radioshow/podcast „Zwei gegen den Rest der Welt.“ His absurdist humor blends topics such as pop culture, philosophy, animals and immigration. As well as performing regularly in Berlin, he has performed at the „Plötzlich am Meer“ Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.“

Daniel Louis Vezza

Daniel Louis Vezza is a comedian who peforms in Berlin and New York. A newcomer to the Berlin comedy scene but one that does not come along every day. Though his material is delivered in a softly spoken manner, his jokes and topics hit hard. Deep and uncomfortable thoughts about sex, technology and murder become logical and flat out hilarious through his words.
