Wir alle bemerken, wie in Leipzigs Stadtbild mit zunehmender Geschwindigkeit stadtteilprägende Off-Locations schließen müssen. Deswegen wollen wir mit der Kunstausstellung “dann macht halt alles dicht” Raum für Aufmerksamkeit, Emotionen, aber auch Austausch & Diskussionen für dieses aktuelle Thema bieten und gleichzeitig lokalen Künstler*innen die Möglichkeit eröffnen, sich künstlerisch mit dieser Thematik auseinanderzusetzen.
Wie sind städtische Entwicklungen und der Erhalt von Off-Locations als Orte des Austauschs und des Experiments vereinbar? Was ist notwendig, um Treffpunkte zu erhalten, die nicht zwangsweise mit Konsum verbunden sind und ein niedrigschwelliges (Sub)kulturangebot für alle schaffen? 
Wir freuen uns, euch ab 18 Uhr im Eckladen des NBL zu sehen, bleibt gern länger, DIENSTHUND pfeifen noch ein Ständchen!

The Netherlands’ most intense noise rock trio has changed its name but not its identity.  Texoprint (formerly known as Kalaallit Nunaat) is a factory specialised in producing noise at the highest level. This year the band will release a new EP and play all over Europe, including shows at Supersonic’s Block Party in Paris and Best Kept Secret 2024.

Pina Palau has always shown an interest in unvarnished humanity – the motives, emotions and stories that shape our lives. This fascination prompted her to pursue a medical degree with the goal of becoming a psychiatrist specializing in the complexity of the human psyche. This plan had to be temporarily set aside however when she was in the process of crafting her debut album, «Illusion,» which featured the hit single «Jupi.» Before she knew it, the Swiss artist found herself behind the wheel of her tour bus, travelling through Europe instead of sitting in the psychiatrist’s chair.

Marlena Käthes (she/her) Soundästhetik setzt sich aus folkloristisch, mystischen Melodien, Texten sowie tanzbaren Rhythmen und subbigen Bässen zusammen. Sie verordnet die Musik in dem Genre Darkfolk. Ähnelnde Projekte die in Besprechungen genannt wurden waren Agnes Obel, Emiliana Torrini, Hope Sandoval aber auch Massive Attack und Björk. AGED, Marlena Käthes Debut EP, wurde produziert von Shanice Ruby Bennett (they/them)(Polarbear). Seit der Veröffentlichung der FLINTA* only Produktion AGED folgten Auftritte bei Radiosendern wie radioeins, Deutschlandfunk Kultur und Radio Fritz sowiebei Festivals wie das c/o pop xoxo Köln, Pop Kultur Nachwuchs und dem Fusion Festival. Der letzte Release war die Feature Single mit der Schweizer Künstlerin ToAthena über das Label Mouthwatering Records welches großen Anklang fand und sogar im US- Amerikanischen Radio (Amazingradio US) als Song mit deutschem Text gespielt wurde. Ihre Debüt EP AGED erschien im Frühjahr 2021 digital und auf Tape.

Selbstorganisierte Projekte und Initiativen sind aus der Leipziger Szene kaum wegzudenken und zeigen, dass die Gestaltung von kulturellen Angeboten und Räumen eine Angelegenheit ist, die uns alle betrifft. In diesem Workshop möchten wir als Kunstverein Tipps und Beispiele aus unserer Erfahrung teilen und in die Projektplanung von Konzeption bis Durchführung einführen. Ziel des Workshops ist es, gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmer*innen erste Kenntnisse im Prozess und Strategien der Projektplanung zu erarbeiten, die als Inspiration oder Grundlage für die eigenen Projekte und Teilhabe dienen.

Cymbaline is duo from Utrecht, making music with analog synthesizers, crappy drum computers and lo-fi vocals. Their music draws heavily on 70s underground and sounds like a combination of British new wave and German krautrock. Dark and recalcitrant music, with an ever-present touch of melancholy. In 2021, Cymbaline signed with German record label Young & Cold records and in the fall of 2022 Cymbaline released their first album ‚Computerleven‘. In April 2024 they will release their upcoming EP called ‚Gegenwelt‘.

Begleitend zur Ausstellung “dann macht halt alles dicht” (26.4.-11.5) im Eckladen des NBL findet am 5.5. eine Podiumsdiskussion statt. Der Kunstverein gegenwart e.V. lädt Akteur*innen verschiedener stadtteilprägender Leipziger Off-Locations zur Diskussion über Verdrängung, Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten selbstorganisierter und nicht-kommerzieller Räume ein. Die Idee ist es darüber hinaus Diese mit Stadtteilinitiativen und Vertreter*innen der Wissenschaft in einem kleinen Podium moderiert zusammenzuführen und so einen Ort des Austausches zu schaffen.

Can Güngör’s albums predominantly feature his personal narratives, accompanied by original, profound lyrics and nuanced arrangements. These works have consistently garnered acclaim, being recognized as the best albums of their respective years by numerous music writers and blogs. His single „Yalnız Ölmek,“ released in 2016, quickly captured widespread attention, solidifying its status as one of the artist’s notable hits.

Télépagaille is a 5-piece DIY synthpunk ensemble. The band writes the fast, fun, synthetic soundtrack to an urban and desperate everyday life. The lyrics use kitschy and old-fashioned French vocabulary to tell the story of an average joe falling into every trap the city throws at him.The band was founded in 2022 in a bedroom studio and released a first EP in 2023 – a second is in the works and will be released in 2024. Télépagaille has been playing live since 2023 and quickly made a name for itself in the Parisian alternative scene. Their energetic and interactive shows helped them quickly build a devoted local fan base.

Disco Sprizz, das sind sweete Vibes, gute Laune und das fröhlich-spritzige Gefühl von einem erfrischenden Aperol Spritz in Form einer Party.

Eine Party von FLINTAS für FLINTAS und für die queere Community (Allies willkommen) abseits vom gängigen Techno, mit einem Fokus auf groovy, bouncy Genres. Hauptsächlich kann die Crowd Disco, House, und ab und zu Hip-Hop oder Breaks erwarten. Dazu gibt es noch eine Dragshow.

Hinter den Namen LAUNDROMAT CHICKS verbirgt sich das Musikprojekt des gerade erst 18 Jahre alt gewordenen TOBIAS HAMMERMÜLLER. Die Songs seines Debut auf Siluh Records hat er größtenteils selbst eingespielt. Live tritt er in Bandbesetzung mit Lena Pöttinger (Schlagzeug), Theresa Strohmer (Gitarre, Vocals) und Felix Schnabl (Bass) auf. Felix Schnabel wiederum hat mit Salamirecorder sein eigenes Garage-Punk-Projekt, wo Tobias Bass spielt. Musikalisch klingt das Ganze nach exquisiten Jingle-Jangle-Indie/TweePop-Sound. Es scheint fast so als handle es sich hier um ein verschollenes Album von frühen einflussreichen Labels wie Flying Nun, Cherry Red, Postcard Records. Die Songs von „Trouble“ sind meist zuhause, im Schlafzimmer, vor dem Fernseher und an seinem Lieblingsort im Kino. Die Grundstimmung der Lieder hat melancholische Züge, zu denen man aber trotzdem kochen oder tanzen kann, oder die man Bus hören kann wenn man am Weg dazu ist, mit seinen Freund*innen auszugehen. Inspirationen nahm Tobias Hammermüller von Indie-Rock Sound der 2010er (Snail Mail, Chastity Belt, The Babies, Best Coast, The Drums) und von vielen New Wave Hits (Aztec Camera, Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, Prefab Sprout). Die Textzeilen basieren zum großen Teil aus Filmzitaten. Vor allem die alten Streifen von Éric Rohmer und Wim Wenders, und aus New Hollywood/Nouvelle Vague Filmen haben es ihn angetan, handeln sie nämlich oft von Identitätskrisen und Realitätsflucht, genau wie seine Lieder.

The Berlin based duo, Crow Baby, is the love child of Cherilyn MacNeil and Jean-Louise Parker,both born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, and each a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with her own projects. In 2020 they reunited in Berlin and started a standing Friday afternoon playdate as a respite during the Covid lock down. The result is a fearsome and wholly original Art Pop band – „with a punk spirit!“ – which pairs a mischievous, upbeat sound with delightfully wry lyrics: a cheerleader with a mean, messy streak.

Busted Head Racket is a three piece tennis core, synth punk band from Newcastle, NSW, Australia. The members consist of Arden Guff (Vocals, bass), David Cunningham (synth) and Riley Gardiner (drums). The project originally began as a solo project of Arden’s in 2020, inspired by Sneaks and The Death Set. Since the bands formation in late 2022, their influences have evolved drawing inspiration from the B-52s, Powerplant and Devo. BHR blends driving bass leads, punchy straight up and down drums and whirring synths with a tactful blend of power-pop melodies. The tracks are short, no nonsense and full of hooks.

Can you smell what The Whiffs are cookin? Hint: it’s not Phish, Meatloaf or a String Cheese Incident. Nope – Kansas City’s prodigal sons of power pop are sticking to what they know. Since 2017’s Take A Whiff EP, the band has been busy allowing their auditory aromas to ripen with the addition of Joey Rubbish (of The Rubs) for a fuller, more robust sonic bouquet. While the band can still get it up for Stiff Records, with their pop-centric punk remains in full force, the album also takes detours down lonelier roads in broken-hearted ballads from the heartland. No rocks left unturned on a journey forged by pioneers like Chilton and later Westerberg, the looming legacy of Petty, and the cosmic country harmonies of The Byrds before them.

Haou Nebout is an electroacoustic trio based in Bologna (IT) formed by Biagio Cavallo (laptop), Andrea Fabris (drums, live electronics) and Riccardo Tesorini (synths, samplers). Their works range from live performance, algorithmic music and sound installations, with a particular care about sound

spatialization. Haou Nebout explores the relationships between the non-idiomatic improvisation and the new fields of sound research, taking the post-humanist perspective as a starting point. The trio does not set limits to the interaction with multiple expressions of contemporary art, leaving open windows projected toward soundscapes at the boundaries of perception.

Hologram Hug ist das Bruderduo Ryan und Atom Parks, das in den Hurrikan-Vororten von Charleston, S.C., USA, aufgewachsen ist. Nach einer Reihe seltsamer Ereignisse, jeweils neun Leben und mehr als einem merkwürdigen Vorkommnis, beschlossen sie, nach Leipzig zu ziehen, um eine mysteriöse Maschine zu bauen. Brimming with undeviating venom, their music veers from frothing with condemnation and dwelling in such stark clarity to personifying the increasingly traumatic state of the world with a certain poetical romance. It’s intensely isolated, brooding with a curious assuredness yet indelibly scorched by the very reality we are utterly consumed by. LUMER are startling in their anger and vulnerability. Their music battles with its own indignation, surging with unkempt fury before collapsing in fragile exhaustion from carrying the unheard, and crushing under its weight, utterly confounded by the normalcy in silence. It’s gut-wrenching, yet entirely vital – a pertinent voice that possesses more subtle gravitas and intelligence than many of their contemporaries. The very heart of LUMER is here on display.

ischia ist eine Wiener Band, die sich in diversen Winkeln des Indie-Rocks herumtreibt. Mal erzeugen Soundflächen Stimmungen und Bilder, mal wird man von einem treibenden Beat und lauten Gitarren mitgerissen – nur den eingängigen Melodien kommt man nicht aus.

Mit ihrer Debüt-Single „sleep“ teilen ischia das erste Mal ihre Musik mit der Welt und besingen dabei die Sehnsucht nach Rückzug und Ruhe. Wer hat nicht manchmal das Bedürfnis, einfach den alltäglichen Verpflichtungen den Rücken zuzukehren und den ganzen Winter durchzuschlafen? Der Song bietet zumindest besten Ersatz!
